Microsoft Surface in 2022: What do we want, and what do we expect?

The Surface Pro 8 will launch on October 22.

Update (10/23/16): Microsoft has released answers to the questions raised in today’s post, signaling that the Surface Pro 8 will come with the same price and features as the Surface Book in the same timeframe. The Surface Pro 8 will cost $799, and it comes in a box with an Intel Core i7 processor and a Touch Bar display.

Update (10/23/16): The Surface Pro 8 will be thinner than the Surface Book, and has a 5.77-inch display and a Retina display. It also comes with a 16GB internal storage “smarter” than the Surface Book Touch Bar, and the laptop also comes with a 3,200mAh battery.

A report from Ars Technica shows that despite said Surface Pro 8 specs, the Surface Book Touch Bar is actually not “strong enough”. They assert that the Touch Bar is “grey” and “off” (i.e. it’s without a few of the glowsticks on the Surface Book), and the speaker is “thin”. They also claimed that the Surface Pro 8 comes with the same battery life as the Surface Book, though they didn’t specify how many of those were left.

Update (10/23/16): We’ve asked Microsoft for more details on the Surface Pro 8 in each of the six regions. The company hasn’t responded, so you might have a better idea of what’s coming.

Update (10/23/16): Surface Pro 8 release dates have not been announced. The Surface Pro 8 will be expected to launch on October 22.

Update (10/24/16): The Surface Book will be available later this year. The pricing will range from $799 for the 4GB model to $899 for the 8GB model.
