Labor makes AU$1 billion election promise to support local industries
The Liberal Opposition says the $12 billion Liberal-led Coalition launched the coalition pledge while on the campaign trail. The coalition is seeking to save community-owned, labour-powered jobs and promote low-cost, environmentally friendly manufacturing in rural and remote areas.
The Coalition said its $12 billion pledge to local industry would help provide low-cost, low-carbon, low-carbon jobs in Telstra’s Wind Farm and Kew in rural and remote areas of the state.
Mr Abbott said he had no intention of making a commitment to local industry, and said he did not want to “jump-start the central government’s agenda”.
“The people of the state have a choice. They can come together to support local businesses,” he said. “They can come together to invest $12 billion in these workforce jobs.
“They can come together to come together to support low-cost, low-carbon, low-carbon manufacturing and ensure that low-cost, low-carbon jobs are created and that low-carbon jobs are generated in Australia.
“They can come together to support low-cost, low-carbon, low-carbon manufacturing. We’re leading this company off the witches’ brew and it’s the biggest investment ever made by a local business in Australia. We hope we can get it right.”
The government announced a $12 billion commitment, but Labor did not support it.
Abbott said he would stop this in May when his new strategy was to make local business more active.
