Rocket Lab catches rocket mid-air using helicopter before dropping it into the ocean
Russia launched two missile tests earlier this week on its Modena Island off Central America, the first of its kind by an indigenous military arsenal.
The Russian-built rocket had a range of 1,200 miles (2,400 km), and was expected to hit within 30 minutes.
It was launched from a Su-24 fighter jet that was carrying a cargo of ammunition, the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement.
The launch was facilitated by Russia’s “Yakutimpro” – the device used by state-run Titan rocket off the coast of Chile.
It was not clear whether the Russian Defence Ministry used a launcher when it launched it, nor if it was carried by the main military transport.
The rocket was carrying four M-103 rocket launchers, a number that are used to blast off rockets from Russia’s system over land.
The Russian ministry said it had no specific plans to launch any of the satellites.
The launch was carried out by a Russian-built proton rocket that is equipped with M-22 rockets inherited from the Russian version of the Su-24 battle tank.
The first of the four launches is expected to go ahead the next month.
