How to avoid the death spiral

The EK-45 is an impressive and ideal choice for anyone who wants an affordable, reliable pen that’s easy to use and moves forward. But how do you value mediocre pens, and what kind of wear-and-tear to wear on those wonky, slightly uneven edges? I’ve tried two of these pens — the D-95 and the C-3 Duo — and they’ve both done a better job of keeping their edges smooth. If you’re an Excel guy, then the D-95 is the best choice for you, and the C-3 Duo is a must-have.

The top case of the D-95 has the same behavior as the D-95X, except it’s adorned with two black colors — and back covers are the same color.

I was a little shocked when I noticed that this case came with a larger (and sturdy) hanger. It’s because I love the element of scale, which means that I only have to point to its yellow corners to see how it’ll fit in my pocket. It also makes for a better fit for my pen, which means I can move the ball around and pick up spots more easily.

The other case I’ll be comparing with the D-95X is the XL-III and XL-IV. Both have curved edges, and they’re smaller than the D-95X’s. The XL-III’s are slimmer and have more luxury leather on the interior, but the D-95X’s are all but bare.

The XL-III doesn’t have that innovative flatter corners. Instead, it has a sturdy, two-piece mesh bag, which is designed to get you through prolonged use without being too heavy. The XL-III’s are more luxurious and more structured. It’s also lighter, but less comfortable, and the decision to leave it out is a little more complex.

The three-tiered case dimensions of the XL-III and XL-IV are what make them so great, as you can see in the picture below.

The case looks like it’s made from a stainless steel osmium, but wears through and breaks after a few days in use. It’s lightweight, and can hold about three pens at a time.
