WWDC 2022: Apple’s top-secret AR/VR headset could make a surprise appearance

The show was billed as a “steampunk recreating of 18th-century spooky and sci-fi realms” but as it was taking place Harkness said: “We are currently in the middle of full production on the AR/VR headset that we are excited about and the world is getting, for sure, much more fun. We’re excited for the first full production, which is about five years from now, and we hope that it will get you into the world of storytelling, and what we’re doing will help your reading enjoyment.”

The show is to feature Harkness’ adaptation of the famous 10th century English theme poem and music as well as a production of a film by the same name.

The company said in a statement: “As we enter the 21st Century, AR/VR headsets are just beginning to hit the market. AR is a collaborative medium that brings so many unique experiences and experiences. There are many ways to explore this world; VR, AR and other similar technologies are on the rise. The AR technology for making movies and virtual reality is also growing rapidly. The AR headset will be a key part of the development process for ARVR and AR World, so we’re hoping to have a range of AR headsets ready in 2014, but the magic will be in the ARWorld movie.”

X-Traxxs’s Brian Amos, the co-founder of VRFocus, thinks of the AR headset as a’steampunk-ish revival of the old way of storytelling’ and said previously: “When I started this Kickstarter to get people into VR I thought you’d just want to shoot a camera in the world. It was my idea to put a little bit of technology into the world. It’s going to be very next level that people can actually watch something. I think if you have a background in storytelling then you’re going to want to get into that too. I think there are some great AR guys and women out there who are taking that and making it really good. I think the next time you’re on a set you can be a part of it or you can be a part of it when you go into the theater. This is not just a physical show but a children’s movie that’s going to come out in the near future. You never know.”

The Kickstarter, which launched mid-February, called for 500,000 points and was funded by a series of positive reviews for the headset from critics and fans.

In its statement, Apple said: “We just created the AR headset. AR was born from experiences in the 1920s, and a book by Marc Jacobs called The Suburbs was the first line of communication between a person and a curate. We have creators who are in charge and are the first to pull this technology out of the kibosh of being a data-driven medium. The world’s two major media platforms have really been moving towards new ways to communicate, and we wanted to make sure that content creators go first and people go second, as the more people become involved around media and technology, the more effective it is.”
